Problem StatementCurrently, the system relies on a physical electronic identifier to record the passage of vehicles (light, heavy, fleets, motorcycles, etc.), with a conventional ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system as a backup in case of failure of the former. The existence of two mechanisms—identifiers and cameras—ensures a total collection rate but creates dependence on hardware, on maintenance & management costs, and is less sustainable for the environment. Current SolutionsThe current electronic toll collection system uses a physical device installed in the vehicle that communicates with the detection gantries. In the event of a failure, the system is supported by license plate reading via cameras, ensuring a 100% collection rate. Pain PointThe aim of this challenge is to find innovative solutions that enable the complete dematerialization of the physical identifier, replacing it with more modern, reliable, and interoperable payment methods between different highway operators. The aim is to identify new automatic and digital charging models, already in use in other geographical areas or under development, that represent the future of automatic payments, without the need for physical devices in the vehicle or dependence on conventional license plate reading.
